In the late 1980s, Fabrizio founds the “Noci Sonanti” tribe (which literally means “Sounding Walnuts tribe”). In an old farmhouse in the heart of the Italian countryside, Fabrizio decides to live without electricity and other comforts of modern life, hosting those people who want to adopt and share his radical lifestyle.
Thirty years later, the film tells the story of a sixty-five years old Fabrizio spending his summer with Siddhartha, his nine years old son, who grew up in the Tribe when his parents were still together. With his father's help, the child is preparing for his fourth-grade exam as a private student, which seems to be the only institutional moment of his life.
During this summer, Sid begins to attend Sofia, a girl almost his own age, who spends a short period with her grandfather, who lives close to him. With her he experiences a completely different lifestyle: archetypal moments, common to each child, alternate with other situations more related to the way of living, which mark a difference between the Tribe and the rest of the world. A difference that the child starts to consider when prompted to imagine his future for the first time.
