Ungur & Huang is wife-and-husband artist duo Livia Ungur and Sherng-Lee Huang. They work primarily in video, as well as sculpture, installation, and performance. Livia was born in Romania and came to America to study art; Sherng-Lee grew up in Tennessee and formerly directed documentaries. They live and work in New York City.
The duo weaves together autobiography; fiction; documentary; and digressions into history, art, and pop culture—often within a single work. Their playful, self-reflexive narratives explore the construction and consequences of fantasy, as well as the migration of ideas, images, and individuals across political and cultural borders.
The duo have exhibited at the Berlin International Film Festival, Modern Museum of Art, National Gallery Art, Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, National Library of Argentina, Knoxville Museum of Art, Des Moines Art Center, Open Space Arts Centre, Spool Contemporary Art Space, Ann Arbor Film Festival, and Black Maria Film Festival. They were included in Filmmaker Magazine's "25 New Faces of Independent Film."
