Born in Armenia, Marat Sargsyan started his filmmaking career in his teenage years working at his local TV studio. After moving to Lithuania he continued working in television where he also started working as his own culinary show host and directing successful music videos. In 2005 Marat quit his job at television and enrolled in the Film directing course at Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. He continued studying for a Masters degree where he directed his films: Lernavan (2009), which screened and won awards at Vilnius Film Shorts, Kusterndorf International Film and Music Festival, Golden Apricot Festival, Vilnius IFF, Targowa Film Street and Father (2012) which screened and won awards at Visions du Reel IFF, Krakow IFF, Vilnius International Documentary FF, Lobuskie Lato Filmowe IFF and many others. In 2020 Marat directed his new film The Flood Won’t Come (2020.) which was nominated for an international critic’s award at Venice FF.
