Zeina Daccache is a Lebanese actress, theatre & film director, clinical psychologist & drama therapist. She is the founder and Executive Director of the first Arab Center for Drama Therapy: Catharsis and works as drama therapist in different settings (prisons, refugee camps, etc.). In 2009, she produced the Pioneer theatre production and film “12 Angry Lebanese” with the inmates of Roumieh Prison. The film received international acclaim and awards and led to the implementation of the law for the reduction of sentences for good behavior in 2009. In 2012, she created the play Scheherazade in Baabda, with women inmates of Baabda prison, mainly murderers of husbands where they held up a mirror to patriarchal societies about the oppression of women. Her 2nd feature documentary Scheherazade’s Diary, won 10 international awards, and joins efforts towards the passing of the long-awaited bill to protect women from domestic violence in 2014. In 2021, her 3rd feature documentary sees the light: The Blue Inmates conveying the voice of offenders with mental health conditions, accompanied by a draft law presented to the Lebanese Parliament in 2016. She is the recipient of many awards given for her distinguished contributions to the field and her activism.
