Beatrice "Maggie" Andersson was born in Kenya in 1962 in a Maasai village and died in 2012 from cancer while she was living in Malmö, Sweden. Beatrice’s father left the family destitute soon after she was born. Beatrice herself left her family when she was 14 refusing to let herself be circumcised. When she was 17 Beatrice gave birth to a son, whom she brought up by herself in Nairobi. In 1995 Beatrice moved to Sweden where after two short-lived marriages she lived by herself until her death.
