Eugenio Polgovsky (Mexico City, 1977) was a Mexican filmmaker, cinematographer and editor. Known for the documentaries Tropic of Cancer (2004), The Inheritors (2008) and Mexican Ritual (2012).
Polgovsky became a prominent independent documentary filmmaker of the Mexican scene, with a personal cinematography enchained with a meticulous editing. He explored the backgrounds of the Mexican reality, from the rural ancient world to the urban areas, the mega city of Mexico. His films contain an intense social and political density through the portrait of the cotidianity of the forgotten people, (Los Olvidados, a leit motif subject of his films), his eye research those that the massive media and people doesn't see.
The MoMA in New York presented Tropic of Cancer as one of the region’s most innovative contemporary films (2006). His films were featured in Cannes Film Festival, (2005) 65th Biennale of Venice (2008), Berlin Film Festival (2009) and received the support of the Hubert Bals fund of the Rotterdam Film Festival. He received more than 30 film awards worldwide, including 4 Mexican Academy "Ariel" and the Joris Ivens prize in the Festival Cinema du Réel in 2005.
