Daan Bunnik is an award winning filmmaker based in The Netherlands. In 2012, he graduated with his film ‘Skin feels’ (De huid voelt). The film, depicting his perception of the ageing body of his parents, has won 3 awards and has screened at over 25 film festivals around the world (IDFA, Uppsala, NYC Indie, Encounters, a.o.). In 2016, he completed a new hybrid short, ‘Tibor’, that combines autobiographical voice-over with fiction images, and portrays the depressed feelings Bunnik had during his student years.
His new fiction short ‘Headbutt’ (Kopstoot) exposes the transforming relationship of two adolescent brothers. The script was selected to be part of NISI MASA’s European Short Pitch and is produced by Volya Films.
Apart from these projects, Bunnik works with full commitment as a director, camera operator and editor. He directed five 15 minute documentaries in Nanjing, China to portray the exchange between Dutch designers and Chinese craftmen for the project DutChinese. The short documentaries where shown on Chinese television and Dutch Design Week 2015. For the band Wolf in Loveland he directed the music video ‘The Devil Has No Home’. Next to that he works as a camera operator for Company Webcast, Piet Zwart Institute and has done assignments for a.o. University of Amsterdam, Touch Media, Theatre De Krakeling, Foundation Freehouse, Vroes, Jekkoos, VideoWerkt and Witsand Films.
