At the foot of the Andes in Patagonia, Camilo Peña is an old gaucho suffering from an illness that is leading him resolutely to blindness. He decides to stay among his animals, in the harsh winter and in a certain solitude. At the edge of darkness, he carries out his daily routine, repeating identical movements, gradually made more arduous by his worsening condition. Through an image imbued with softness and delight, with the camera placed as close as possible to its protagonist, Resplandor successfully reflects the sensation of sunshine on the skin or the radiance (resplandor) of the light that faces the threat of the shadows. Like the way in which the senses slowly disappear or, to the contrary, seem to intensify, the film sketches a sensorial experience with great strength, notably thanks to delicate sound processing. What remains is the certitude that, once again, nature will come into its own.
