Sniadecki was born on a goat farm in Michigan, grew up in the rustbelt of Northern Indiana, and has lived and worked for several years in China. His films were screened at museums and galleries, such as the Guggenheim, the MoMA, the Museum of Natural History, the MAC in Vienna, the UCCA in Beijing, and the upcoming 2014 Whitney Biennale, as well as at festivals such as the Berlinale, New York, Locarno, Vancouver, Edinburgh, BAFICI, and Beijing Independent. His work has also received several awards, including the Joris Ivens Award at Cinema du Reel for Chaiqian/Demolition (2008), a Golden Leopard and a Silver Leopard at Locarno for Foreign Parts (2010), the Best Anthropological Film award at Festival dei Popoli and Best Cinematography award at the Ann Arbor Film Festival for People’s Park (2012), the "Best Chinese Film" at the Taiwanese International Film Festival for Yumen (2013), and the "Best Film" award at L'Alternativa for The Iron Ministry (2014). He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Documentary Media MFA program at Northwestern University.
