In this piece commissioned by Sound & Music in association with no.w.here, documentary film-maker Malcolm Zammit and composer/performer David Plans explore the static and metastatic dimensions of the King’s Cross (London, UK) area from a unique perspective – one foot off the ground.
The movement of human traffic, currency, data, cargo, the movement of buildings and monuments, their appearance and disappearance over the years, are as one – perpetual motion and apparent stillness locked in permanent symbiosis, an endless metastatic dance.
From one foot off the ground, pavement, shoes, tarmac, manholes, turnstiles, coins, tyres, rails, wheels, cables show the essence of this ongoing choreography, the ever mutable nature of civic infrastructure.
This is an idiosyncratic representation of the space, place and soundscape that is London’s Kings Cross, and a filmic representation of psychogeographical interest.
